Srinagar, Feb 25 (KNO): A 22-year-old mechanical engineer from Srinagar is winning hearts on social media with his exquisite art pieces made from wood scrap. Mudasir Rashid, a resident of Khonmoh, Srinagar, has been crafting and selling unique handmade items online across India for the past year, turning his passion into a source of livelihood. Speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Mudasir said he never received formal training in this craft but developed an interest in making art from wood scraps. "After creating a few pieces, I started a social media page called 'That Kashmiri Crafter' and uploaded pictures of my work. The response was overwhelmingly positive, which motivated me to make more items," he said. As his customer base expanded across India, he realised the power of social media as a promotional platform, saying that when used positively, it can open up new opportunities for young entrepreneurs. Rashid said that whenever he comes across scrap wood, he examines it closely to envision how it can be transformed into an art piece. "This kind of work requires patience and dedication, but when you create something beautiful out of waste, it gives you immense satisfaction," he said. While scrap wood art is not a well-known trend in Kashmir, Mudasir said it has a strong market internationally. With support from his family and increasing demand, he now plans to expand his work and reach more customers. Mudasir believes that engaging in creative and productive activities can help young people stay away from negative influences like drug addiction. "Young people should channel their energy into positive pursuits. If you invest your time in something meaningful, you'll not only earn money but also respect," he advised. With his passion, determination, and artistic vision, Mudasir Rashid is proving that innovation and creativity can turn even discarded materials into masterpieces—(KNO)
